MARY LEE SCHICK

Mary Lee Schick, of Gloucester, Va., known to her family as Honey, Mom, and Nanny, died Dec. 12, 2015 at age 72.

Mary fought a courageous battle against emphysema for more than 18 years until her body failed her.

Mary was born and raised in Osage, W.Va. (Morgantown). In 1962, Mary met her loving husband, John W. Schick Sr., while living in Washington D.C. The two were married for 52 years.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  Mary worked for the federal government for many years and owned and operated several local video stores (Top 20) in Gloucester and York counties and Urbanna for about eight years.

Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Ellen (Sissy); her mother, Mary; father Curtis; brother, George (Sonny), and sister, Gloria (Snooky).

Mary is survived by her husband John; her son, John Jr. (Bud) and his wife Eve and their daughters, Alex and Grace; as well as her daughter, Tammy and her son Logan, and her faithful dog Bailey. 

Mary’s affection for her animals was limitless and her love and pride of family will be her legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider offering a donation to Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society and the Carrobell Home for children with disabilities: Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061, or to Carrobell Incorporated, 198 Cinnamon Dr., Hubert, N.C. 28539.

The family will receive friends at St. Therese Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., with services starting at 12. Burial will be in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery.
