Mary Ellen Schaeffer, 91, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; mother, Nan Shackelford; sister, Nancy Smith and nephew, Sands Smith VI.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Katheryn Dick, Nan Bandura (Steve), William Smith and Joseph Thomas Smith (Dalanya) and great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Christopher, Sands VII, Caitlyn, Elizabeth and Nathan.

Mary Ellen retired after many years of service with the Richmond Juvenile Courts. She and her husband retired to Mathews County and enjoyed a relaxing lifestyle.

A graveside service was held 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
