Mary Ella Young Steele, age 85, a longtime Gloucester Point resident and formerly of Washington County, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018. 

She was the daughter of the late W.D. Young Jr. and Margaret Young. Mary was a certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who graduated from the Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1953, and from the Watts Hospital Anesthesiology Program in 1957. Mary retired from Gloucester County Public School System in 1997 after serving 15 years as a school nurse. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and beading. Mary was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Samuel Ray Steele, MSgt., U.S. Army-ret.; a daughter, Julie Christy Steele; parents, and brother, David Young.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Margaret Morris and husband Bill of Roanoke, and brother, Roy Young and wife Elaine of Granite Bay, California.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
