MARY CURTIS ‘TOMMIE’ THOMAS FARY

Mary Curtis “Tommie” Thomas Fary, 91, of Gloucester, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Commander Edwin Curtis Thomas and Mary Haynes Thomas. She was a graduate of Longwood Teachers College and received her Master’s from the College of William Mary and was working on her doctorate when she was diagnosed with an aneurysm in the early nineties. She taught in the Gloucester County Public School System for many years where she was a basketball coach in her early years, all 5’4” of her and was a visiting teacher/counselor. She had a beautiful soprano voice and played the organ and piano for Olive Branch United Methodist Church and later for Gloucester Point Baptist Church. In her later years, she enjoyed playing bridge weekly with her friends. She loved music, animals and reading.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Thomas Montgomery Pike Fary II, and is survived by her husband of 69 years, William Daniel Fary Sr.; children, Billye Dalton (Michael), William D. Fary Jr., Susan H. Finkel, Timothy C. Fary (Robin), and Wanda L. Fary; sister, Gloria L. Thomas; grandchildren, Justin Dalton, Lucas Dalton, William D. Fary III, Heather Keyes, Timothy Fary Jr., Christian Fary, and Tyler Fary, and great-grandchildren, Elijah Dalton, Aspen Dalton, Tristen Fary, Colin Fary, Makenna Keyes, Jaxon Hunt, Rilee Dalton, and Isabella Dalton.

The family will receive at the funeral home on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 6-7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. at Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery on Friday, July 9, 2021. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
