MARY C. JOHNSON

A Celebration of Life service for Mary C. Johnson, 82, of Richmond, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Whiting’s Funeral Home Chapel, Williamsburg. She died Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

She was a native of Gloucester County, was educated in Gloucester Public Schools, and attended Virginia State College, now Virginia State University. She was a substitute teacher at T.C. Walker School, Gloucester, an Ordnance Secretary at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, a saleswoman for Patriot Chevrolet, Williamsburg, and a salesperson at MCI Worldcom, Newport News. Mrs. Johnson relocated to Richmond after her husband died and joined First Baptist Church of South Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Thomas Carter; brothers, Horace Carter and John Carter, and husband, Nelson Johnson Sr. Survivors include two children, Cynthia Clark and Nelson Johnson Jr., and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Johnson may be viewed at 10 a.m. Saturday until the hour of her service. Due to the current health pandemic, face coverings and social distancing will be required. Facebook Livestream will be available for the service.
