Mary Belle Smith of Hayes, passed away Aug. 13, 2012 at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
She was born Feb. 26, 1929 to John C. and Mary S. Scott Tapscott of Millenbeck, Va., one of six children, four boys and two girls. She married several times, and raised three fine children.
Mary Belle worked for nearly 30 years as certified nursing assistant at Francis N. Sanders Nursing Home in Gloucester Court House, where she was much beloved.
She enjoyed creating beautiful things, and worked many lovely pictures in cross stitch and crewel embroidery. She was an avid gardener, and never happier than when tending her flowers.
Mary Belle is survived by her children, John Hayman of North Carolina, Suzanne H. Wright of Virginia Beach, and Thomas (Anna) Hayman of Hampton; two grandchildren, including grandson Beau Hayman, and several other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde L. Smith; brothers, Thomas (Chip), James, John and Joseph Tapscott, and sister, Audrey Hayden.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lancaster.
