Mary Belle Pine of Cobbs Creek, Mathews County, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, after a brief illness at the age of 91.  

The daughter of Charles A. and Alice M. (Lantz) Cartwright, Mary was born in 1928 in Union, New York.  In 1947, she married Wendell W. Pine of Cortland, New York. They soon became avid travelers in the early days of the RV industry, visiting family and friends and many National Parks across the country. They resided in the Tidewater area of Virginia for many years before making their home in Mathews County in 1979.

Along with Wendell, “Mary B” was a zealous evangelizer sharing her love of God and his Word with all who were interested. After Wendell’s death in 2008, she continued to enjoy her ministry in addition to caring for her pets and property. Mary was always interested in learning new things and remained active until a few days before her death.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law in New York and Illinois. Mary will be missed by family and many longtime friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Saluda Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019.
