Martin wins gold in Florida regatta

Casey Martin, a rising senior at Gloucester High School, won a gold medal at the CanAmMex Regatta last weekend in Sarasota, Florida.
The rowing event brings together junior competitors from the United States, Canada and Mexico. Martin competed as a member of the U.S. Junior National Team.
Martin competed in two events. On Saturday, she and one of her teammates rowed in the women’s pair, finishing fifth among six boats that entered.
On Sunday, Martin and her teammates defeated the Canadian and Mexican boats in the women’s eight with coxswain to win gold medals with a time of 6:45. Mexico won the overall competition, while the U.S. was second and Canada was a close third.
Martin will complete her summer rowing with the Resilient Rowing Club in Northern Virginia and close the summer regatta season with the 134th Royal Canadian Henley Regatta on July 31 in Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of Randy and Jaye Martin of Hayes.
