Martin advances to state golf tourney

Gloucester High School junior Hunter Martin advanced to the Group 5A Golf Tournament with his performances Monday and Tuesday in the 5A South Regional at the Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run. 

Martin had scores of 73 and 76 for a 149 in the regional to finish seventh overall and advance as a top scoring individual. The state event is scheduled to be played Monday and Tuesday at Magnolia Green Golf Course in Moseley. 

The Dukes finished fourth among the eight teams in the regional tourney. Mills Godwin won the event with a two day total of 615. Deep Run was second with 617, Matoaca was third with 625 and Gloucester followed with 638. 

Along with Martin’s score, Nathan Gross had a 158, Cameron Baker a 161 and Grady Baker a 179 for the Dukes. Their teammates, Jeremy Carr and Trent Green, shot 176 and 179, respectively. ...
