Marlene S. Tomlinson, 81, Gloucester, Va., died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 17, 2012, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

She was the widow of James Tomlinson.

Marlene is survived by her two sons, Jimmy and his wife Julie Birdsall and Robert Birdsall and his girlfriend Sue Caputo, who was Marlene’s caregiver and confidante. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a cousin, Jerry Wulff and his wife Jenny.

Marlene devoted her life to Bellamy United Methodist Church since she moved to Gloucester from Maryland, and was a member of the church’s XYZ and United Methodist Women.

Marlene had retired from the Board of Education of Montgomery, Md. Her hobbies included gardening, bowling, flying small aircraft, camping and church activities.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Bellamy United Methodist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Waclo. Burial will be in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Relief Fund of Gloucester or Bellamy United Methodist Church.
