Marlene S. Brummer, 71, of Gloucester, Va., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Aug. 21, 2021. Marlene was born in Richmond, Va., and later moved with her family to Gloucester, where she lived thereafter. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School and Christopher Newport University. She was a longtime employee of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the College of William and Mary. Marlene enjoyed traveling, boating, outdoor activities and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Bert; her mother, Mary J. Smoot; her daughter, Holly J. Marshall; her granddaughter, Margo B. Barnes, and her sisters, Ginger S. Moyer (Ronnie) and Suzanne S. Riley (Wayne). Marlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Ryanne Marshall, and her father, Philip Smoot. Marlene will be buried in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery in a private ceremony conducted by Pastor Greg Hand of Pleasant Hill Christian Church of Gasburg, Va.
