MARJORIE HODGES LAMAR

Marjorie Hodges Lamar, 87, of Madison, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Charlottesville.

She was born on May 21, 1931 in Nathalie, Va., to the late Lewis “Brantley” Hodges and Malinda Elizabeth Murphy Hodges. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Hodges and Alvin Hodges, and five sisters, Elaine Younger, Geraldine Jackson, Josephine Fisher, Archie Wood, and Rebecca Hodges.

Marjorie was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church and a founding charter and active member of the Madison Co. Rescue Squad from 1963-2018. Marjorie served as Madison governor for the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads for 15 years. She was also a member of the Virginia Pharmacist Association Auxiliary. Marjorie retired as owner/manager of Madison Drug Company.

She leaves behind her husband of almost 67 years, James Perry Lamar; daughter, Daphne Lamar Sturgill and husband Donnie; two sons, James “Perry” Lamar Jr. and wife Jennifer, and William “Willie” Lamar and wife Jane; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Beth Car Baptist Church in Madison. Interment was private. The family received friends immediately following the service at the Madison Volunteer Fire Company, North Main Street, Madison.
