The Mathews Maritime Museum will reopen Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days and continue through the summer months on Fridays and Saturdays.
Two new exhibits will be on display this year. The first is a history of the steamboat era and its importance to Mathews County when it was the lifeline of this area. The other one is a display of the rich history of Fitchett’s Wharf from the shipwright activities of the early 1800s, to its prominent role during the Civil War including the blockade runner CSS Caroline.
Visitors are asked to wear face masks and observe social distancing. The Mathews Maritime Museum is located at 482 Main Street, Mathews Court House.
