Maritime heritage to be celebrated Saturday

Saturday’s Maritime Heritage Day in Mathews promises to recognize a way of life that has distinguished the county through the centuries. The event is organized and presented each year by members of the Mathews Maritime Foundation.

 

Residents and visitors can enjoy seven stops throughout the county from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. as part of this year’s celebration, beginning at Morningstar Marinas, at Cricket Hill across Milford Haven from Gwynn’s Island. 

 

At Morningstar, food will be provided by the Mathews Lions Club, according to MMF spokesperson Dave Machen. Workboats will also be on display for visitors to tour. Representatives of the 4-H, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and others will be on hand with various presentations and information.

 

From Morningstar, visitors can stop and tour the U.S. Coast Guard station before arriving on the island at the MMF’s Gwynn’s Island Boat Shop. Once at the boat shop, visitors will be able to se...
