Maritime Heritage Day

The Mathews Maritime Foundation hosted its Maritime Heritage Day Festival on Saturday on the lawn beside the museum on Main Street. Tents were set up highlighting various activities and projects the foundation is currently working on. A number of vessels were on display; here, visitors look at a little wooden Old Town “Whitecap” sailboat. In 1965, its sister ship, the 13.5-foot “Tinkerbelle,” was sailed across the Atlantic by 47-year-old newspaperman Robert Manry, capturing the imagination of people across the world.
