MARION FREDERICK ‘FRED’ CROSBY

Marion Frederick “Fred” Crosby, 81, of Gloucester, Va., died Monday, Feb. 15, 2016.

Born in Lynchburg, Va., he was raised in Hampton. He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 28½ years of service, then went to work for the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon retiring in 1999 after which he moved to Gloucester. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1504, Laurel, Md., enjoyed being outside, and loved his dogs as if they were his children.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, James Frederick and Mary Lois Crosby, and his siblings, Charles Crosby, Mary Phyllis Snelson, Leonard Wray Crosby, James Patrick Crosby and Audrey Lane Crosby.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Crosby; his sister, Doris Ann Herron; his brother, William L. Crosby, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. John Randall. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hampton funeral home.
