MARION BYRD FOOTE HART

Marion Byrd Foote Hart, 77, of Fishersville passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Augusta Health.

She was born on June 4, 1934 in Richmond, Va., and was a daughter of the late Henry Alexander and Juanita (Marion) Foote.

She is survived by her beloved son and best friend, Holland Alexander Hart of Gloucester Point, Va.

Marion had a lifelong interest in the Arts. She studied ballet for many years and was an assistant ballet dance instructor in Richmond, Va. from 1957-1959. She loved painting portraits, making hand built figurines in clay, and making jewelry with silver and gemstone beads and generously gave many of her one of a king pieces to friends, relatives, and co-workers. It especially gave her great pleasure to see her creations enjoyed by others. Marion was a very creative and talented artist, sculptor, seamstress and gardener.

She worked for Mary Baldwin College, starting in December of 1986, where she worked for 24 years prior to her retirement in June of 2010. Marion was the telephone voice of the Development Office and was a valuable member of the staff. She also served as a receptionist and made everyone who walked through the door feel welcome, an administrative assistant to the Director of Special Projects and later assisted all areas of Institutional Advancement. She was known and loved by many members of the governing board of the college and many alumnae. After her retirement Marion volunteered at the R. R. Smith Center for Art and History. She loved history and was a proud member of the Foote, Kidd, and Tomkins families of Virginia.

She was a member of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, Beverly Street Studio School, and Staunton Augusta Art Center.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Va. with the Revs. Pat Hunt and Tully Hunter officiating.
