Marie Ellen Billups, 102, of Mathews passed away on March 23, 2017, two days after her birthday.

She was born in Wentzville, Missouri, and was the daughter of the late Russell and Clara Post Thomas and the widow of James Otis Billups. 

She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Mathews and was a volunteer observer for the National Weather Service for 17 years, making weekly reports to the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal.

She is survived by her children, James O. Billups of California, and Betty J. Billups of Spokane, Washington.

There was a reception and the receiving of friends at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, with a Funeral Mass starting at 2 o’clock. Burial was at Kingston Parish Cemetery.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, was in charge of arrangements.
