MARGARET BLAKE DAVIS

Margaret Blake Davis, 84, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2013.

Margaret was a lifelong resident of Bena, and loved being by the water at her home on Sarah’s Creek. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, the VFW, Red Wing Council Degree of Pocahontas, and was an avid supporter of Relay for Life.

Margaret enjoyed working, which included many years with several general practitioners in Gloucester, the Children’s Clinic and Stephenson’s Daycare. She was a school bus aide with Gloucester County Public School Transportation, and she loved the children she cared for on the bus. She enjoyed helping children and being active in the community, which helped keep her young at heart. Margaret rarely missed an opportunity to go fishing and loved to travel with her family. She was an inspiration to those around her due to her loving presence, tender care, devotion, generosity and zest for life. She always embraced others in her unconditional love.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clayton W. Davis; parents, James Robert and Hallie R. Blake; brother, James Robert Blake Jr., and sister, Doris Fleming Shackelford.

She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Smith and husband Hansford; nieces, Betty Sue Martin and husband Bill and Barbara Stendel and husband Pete; nephews, Edwin B. Fleming Jr. and Hansford E. Smith Jr.; great-niece, Mallory Elizabeth Shields Gantt and husband Jayden, and great-nephews, Kai and Cody Stendel.

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
