Man charged with carrying firearm at GHS

A man was charged with the felony of carrying a firearm on school property after police detained him regarding a domestic matter when he arrived at Gloucester High School on May 2. Jerry Wayne Farmer II, 44, of Hayes, was additionally charged with four misdemeanor counts of assaulting a family member.

According to police reports, Farmer’s wife, a GHS employee, reported past domestic assaults to the school’s resource officers on May 2. Gloucester Sheriff Darrell Warren said Farmer had been to the school that morning to switch out the vehicle he was driving for the one his wife drove to school.

Warren said the officers received information that Farmer may return to the school to return his wife’s vehicle, and that he often carried a weapon with him. He said Farmer has a concealed weapon permit.
