Major M. Gurkin Sr., 90, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, in his home.

He was born in Selma, North Carolina, and was the widower of Mary Theresa Gurkin. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years and was the owner of Data Business Machines in Norfolk. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Martha, and siblings, Edward, Ruby Hazel, and Ollie May.

He is survived by his children, Major Gurkin Jr., Mary G. Richardson, and James P. Gurkin (Brenda); brother, James Gurkin; grandchildren, Teresa Delaney and James Gurkin Jr., and great-granddaughter, Alissa Delaney. 

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.
