Major Frederick Shelby Roberts Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on August 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and laughter. Fred (Freddie) was born on November 16, 1950 in Monroe, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Shelby Roberts Sr. and Isabelle Hasselbeck Roberts. He is survived by his wife, Pamala Joy (PJ) Roberts, and his two children Shelby Rowe (Robb) and Nathan Roberts; his two granddaughters, Alyssa and Daisy Roberts; his sister, Claudia Long; brother, Mike Roberts (Sherri), and brother Dr. Richard Roberts (Elisa).
Fred was well-known for his great sense of humor and positive outlook on life. He found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was fishing on a quiet afternoon, delving into science fiction novels, or passionately cheering on the Washington Capitals and engaging in lively discussions about soccer. His laughter and spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we remember Major Frederick Shelby Roberts Jr., we are reminded of his selfless service in the military, his dedication to education, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on November 16, 2025 at the Ware River Yacht Club, with a service starting at 2 p.m. and a visitation afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
