Maintenance work scheduled at bridge

Maintenance work will be undertaken at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge several times over the next couple months to overhaul the hydraulic pumps and replace the electric hydraulic pump motors. The first repairs will be made this Sunday.

Jennifer Gwaltney, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said the work will require alternating shoulder closures in both north- and southbound lanes. Work is planned from 7 a.m. to noon each time, she said, with other planned closures on the following Sundays: June 5 and 19 and July 10.

At this time, no traffic impacts are anticipated, Gwaltney said. In the event of high winds or heavy rain, the work will be shifted to the next available Sunday.
