Main Street project slightly ahead of schedule

As of Tuesday, the fifth phase of Gloucester’s Main Street Enhancement Project was running about one week ahead of schedule, said Everett Treadway, project manager.

Treadway, who is employed by Harbor Dredge & Dock of Richmond, the general contractor for the project, said that the weather has been favorable for construction that began in early June. The contractor plans to have the entire project completed by Dec. 1, he said.

He and site foreman David Reese said they met with Virginia Department of Transportation representatives on-site last Thursday. VDOT said it will issue a written report to the company soon, Treadway said, and they plan to hold another meeting with the contractor later this summer.

Although the project has generated some complaints about disruption of the normal traffic flow and the accompanying signage, Treadway said the signs that have been posted were all approved by VDOT, as were the project plans.
