Main Street groups take over Christmas decorations

After spearheading the effort of brightening Gloucester’s Main Street with holiday cheer and maintaining the decorations for a number of years, the Garden Club of Gloucester and Walter Reed Garden Club have turned the job over to a new team.

This year, several organizations, including the Gloucester Main Street Preservation Trust, Gloucester Main Street Association, Gloucester’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department and Sheriff’s Office, have partnered to ensure Main Street stays aglow throughout the holiday season.

“It was quite a process as we had to remove all lights, buy new ones, re-string and then install,” said Jenny Crittenden, executive director of the MSPT.

She said the installation alone took 60 man-hours. The lighted garlands were installed and lit just in time for all of last weekend’s activities that were held along Main Street.
