Main Street delays expected as new signal installed

The installation of new traffic lights at the Edgehill intersection of Routes 3/14 and Route 17 at Gloucester Court House will take place from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday.

This is a delay from the earlier announced time of Wednesday night through today due to expected inclement weather, said Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Kelly Hannon.

Virginia State Police will direct traffic at the intersection during the change, VDOT said.

Motorists are advised to reduce their speed, eliminate distractions, and follow the direction of law enforcement as they navigate the work zone.

Crews will first deactivate and remove the existing traffic signal equipment, and new equipment will be installed in its place.

New equipment is needed to accommodate pedestrian crosswalks and additional turn lanes built at the intersection, which will open to travelers by Feb. 17, 2021.
