Main Street businesses awarded grants for facade improvements

Gloucester’s Main Street Preservation Trust has announced four winners in the first year of its façade grant improvement program.

Olivia’s in the Village, Gloucester Arts on Main, Direct Access Medicine and the Fairfield Foundation were all selected as the 2011 winners, according to executive director Jenny Crittenden.

The grant program offers a 50 percent match in funds up to $20,000 on work that is projected to be finished by the end of 2011 or has been completed in the last year with proof of receipts.

An initiative of the Main Street group, the façade grant program was part of a list of recommendations in the Courthouse Village Plan that was adopted by the Gloucester Board of Supervisors into the county’s current Comprehensive Plan in March 2010. The Courthouse Village Plan was devised from community input and guidance from outside consultants that specialize in downtown revitalization plans.
