Main Street business owners consider promotion ideas

“You’ve got a good story to promote,” a national speaker said last week about Main Street in Gloucester. And there are still ways to improve the historic Gloucester village to bring even more locals and tourists to shop, dine and enjoy recreational programs, said Matthew Wagner, vice president of revitalization programs for the National Main Street Center.

National Main Street and Virginia Main Street staff toured Main Street on Feb 29, with Wagner and other representatives presenting a public wrap-up session the following evening to about 20 people, including some business owners and county government officials, at Main Street Center.

Gloucester Main Street should schedule an event to encourage shoppers, Wagner said. There are many possibilities, he said, but staff suggested trying a home and lawn event that could tie in with the busy spring gardening season.
