York and Main Vintage Showroom on Gloucester’s Main Street is offering a variety of classes in 2025, from teaching the game Mah Jong to making flowers.
The classes are offered on an individually-scheduled basis and are designed for friend and family gatherings, bridal showers and bachelorette parties, date nights, “Girls’ Night Out,” and other events.
Two-hour Mah Jong classes will be taught by Virginia of Richmond Mah Jong to a group of four for $300. Additional guests are $75 each, with a maximum number per class of 12 students. The game is considered an art form and a gateway to understanding Chinese culture, according to a notice on the York and Main website.
Ronda Bowden will lead a 2.5-hour Pinecone Wreath Workshop for a party of four at a cost of $240. Participants will paint pinecones in vibrant colors, then assemble them. The workshop is designed for “conversation, good times, and enjoying the company of friends,” said a notice on the website.
Karyn Gallion is offering a four-hour Gravity Defying Folk Art Bird Workshop for three friends at a cost of $270, plus $90 for each additional person. The price includes pre-sanded and primed engineered wood components, adhesive, fishing line and hardware, assorted acrylic paints and brushes, and essential hand tools. A notice on the website says, “Discover the magic of ‘tensegrity’ as tension and compression collaborate to uphold this anti-gravity sculpture.”
Theresa Wells Stifel will teach a three-hour workshop on Mixed Media Collage for four friends at a cost of $200, with additional guests welcome for $50 each and a maximum number of 12. Participants will learn how to layer using different glues and fastening and fusing methods to create a personal collage of paper, fabric, photos, and more. Participants bring their own quirky snippets, papers, jewelry, fabric, and odds and ends.
A Thread Sketching Workshop, also taught by Stifel, starts with a personal photo provided by the participant of a favorite person, place, pet, or thing in order to stitch a clean modern portrait on stretched canvas. All necessary supplies are provided. The cost is $200 for a group of four, plus $50 for each additional guest, up to 12 people.
Finally, Ronda Bowden is offering Florals with Friends, a flower-making workshop in which participants create a stunning paper flower of their choice. The group chooses a daffodil, rose, peony, or camellia to create, at a cost of $140 for the group, plus $35 for each additional guest.
