State parks across Virginia, including Machicomoco State Park at Hayes, will be hosting First Day Hikes on Monday, Jan. 1.

First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many people and it is the perfect opportunity to get some exercise, explore outdoors and connect with nature all while enjoying the park’s unique beauty this season, a release stated.

The Machicomoco hike is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Reset and refresh by starting 2024 in a beautiful natural space filled with history as you explore Machicomoco’s stunning vistas while being treated to a warm beverage, a freshly baked treat, and an enlightening guided hike exploring the indigenous people who truly demonstrated their understanding and appreciation of this land,” the park website stated.
