Machicomoco announces June programs

Machicomoco State Park, Hayes, has a number of programs scheduled for next month, beginning with the park’s participation in Clean the Bay Day on Saturday, June 1.

This event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, starting at the park’s Interpretive Area. “Join us and help clean up the park in honor of Clean the Bay Day and National Trails Day,” a release stated. Limited supplies are available, bring your own bucket and trash pickers if you have them.

You can pre-register at cbf.org/events/clean-the-bay-day, but walk-ins are welcome.

On Saturday, June 15, Machicomoco will celebrate Virginia State Parks History and Culture Day.

On June 13, 1936, Virginia’s entire state park system opened to the public. Join the park rangers as they celebrate the park system’s birthday.

From 10-11 a.m., learn about the natural resources of the park and how Virginia’s Indigenous Peoples used them for sport and game playing. Compete against friends and family in games of chance and other skills...
