Lynwood Slade Dunn Jr., age 84, of Hayes, died on Friday, March 3, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. Slade graduated from Newport News High School in 1956. He owned and ran his plumbing/heating supply company, Main Street Supply. He enjoyed participating in Riverside Wellness Center water aerobics and volunteering his free time at the Bread for Life Food Pantry on Route 14. However, his most cherished free time was attending his great-granddaughter’s softball games. Slade was very active at Providence Baptist Church for 50 years and served as a deacon and on many committees. His wife, Betty Long Dunn, preceded him in death. Slade is survived by his two children, Bryan Dunn (Janet) and Sherry Brunner (Bob); four grandchildren, Josiah Dunn (Audrey), Chris Brunner, Michelle Pfeiffer (Andrew), Laura Brunner (Jay), and great-grandchildren Addie, Norah, and Avery. Sister, Joan Hooper (Bob) also survives him. The family will receive friends at Providence Baptist Church on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 10-10:45 a.m., with a memorial service to begin at 11 o’clock, conducted by Pastor Tom Gaskins. Inurnment to follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
