LYNNE POWELL SADLER

Lynne Powell Sadler, known to her friends as Mappy, died April 2, 2012 in her home in Mathews, Va.

Born Dec. 27, 1922, she was a long-term resident of Mathews, moving there in 1946 following her graduation from Elizabeth Buxton School of Nursing and marriage to William A. Sadler, M.D. Together they enjoyed and felt honored to provide health care for the community in which they raised their family.

Mappy’s husband often commented that no matter where she went, she always left it a better place for all she did. Mappy was an excellent cook whose rolls and baked goods were enjoyed by many. She had a good and kind sense of humor and never hesitated to do for others.

Mappy was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Herbert and Virginia Powell; brother, Thomas Powell, and sisters, Virginia Watson and Margaret Mapp.

She is survived and will be missed by her children, Lynne S. Layton and husband Steve of Stevensville, Md., William A. Sadler Jr. and wife Kathy of Mathews, and Anne G. Sadler and husband Craig Syrop of Iowa City, Iowa; her sister, Janice Holland and husband T. A. of Nassawadox, Va.; sister-in-law, Helen Powell of Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren, Stephen R. Layton Jr. and wife Becky, Alex Layton, Martha J. Sadler, Anne M. Sadler; and great-grandchildren Kai and Aiden Layton, and two special relatives, Irene Sadler and Richard Sadler.
