LYDIA MAY BLAKE TEACHER

Lydia May Blake Teacher, 66, of Mathews, gained her wings on Sept. 7, 2021. Born on Nov. 9, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Martha Blake. She grew up in Mathews, where she also attended school.

Lydia, a God-fearing woman, attended both Zion Baptist Church and Wayland Baptist Church. She worked at Mathews Memorial Library for 15 years. After leaving there, she worked for the nursing home in Mathews until her retirement at the age of 60. Lydia, a pillar of her community, also spent many years working for Mrs. Carol Bergdoll and Mrs. Betty Wrenn Day, both of Mathews.

Lydia leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Carrie Javier (Michael) of Mathews; a son, Carlos Blake of Norfolk; grandchildren, Keith Whiting, Dayvon Whiting, Katelynn Blake (all of Mathews), Keturah Barlette of Kentucky, and Rashawn Steele of Montana; brothers, Charles Blake (Shirley) of Virginia Beach, George Blake (Terry) and Robert Blake, both of Mathews; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, a special “grandson,” Caleb Thomas of Mathews, and her forever friend, Gladys Kemp. She will be truly missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins.
