Luther “Earl” Fitchett, age 88, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at Tidelands Community Hospice House in South Carolina.

Born in Mathews County, Va., he was a son of the late Edwin and Kathleen Fitchett. Mr. Fitchett was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired as a mail carrier after 34 years of service, and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Fitchett.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Josephine Fitchett of Murrells Inlet; daughters, Susan Carol Flurry of Nebraska and Kathie (Ed) Aduddell of Texas; sons, Eric (Vikki) Fitchett of Virginia, Earl (Julie) Fitchett of Georgia, and Ed (Martha) Fitchett of Pawleys Island, S.C.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
