LuLu Birds Kitchen opens in Gloucester

Gloucester residents are literally going to the “birds,” as in Main Street’s new eatery—LuLu Birds Kitchen.

The new restaurant, which held a soft opening on Nov. 11, will have its grand opening this Saturday. Keyvan Behnam, who owns the restaurant with his wife Isabelle, said they plan to offer some specials for the grand opening event. The restaurant is named for their daughter, Layla, whom they often call “Birdie.”

Lulu Birds Kitchen is only open for dinner now, but plans to begin serving lunch in early December, Behnam said. The restaurant is open Tuesdays through Sundays and closed on Mondays.

Keyvan is the chef, heading a staff of 15. Isabelle is the front-end manager in charge of the dining room and full-service bar. The restaurant seats about 50 people.

The concept is simple, Behnam said, as he tries to use as many fresh ingredients in creating a varied, seasonal menu. He uses in-season vegetables, fish and other foods. A surprise good sel...
