LT. COLONEL JAMES E. ‘JIM’ STRAWN

Lt. Colonel James E. “Jim” Strawn of Chester, USMC retired, 86 years old, and a Radford, Virginia, native, passed away early in the morning of September 29, 2025. He was a proud Marine Corps aviator. His service included a combat tour in Vietnam, and he later served as the Marine Corps liaison with the United States Air Force helping to develop the AWACS. He was proud of his service and active in his former squadron reunions and the Marine Corps Aviation Association.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, he had a second career as one of the designers of the first software system for United Network for Organ Sharing. Following his tenure at UNOS, he left to become a successful business owner in software design and programming.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy; his sister, Nora; son, James; son, Mark and his wife Rachel; and six grandchildren, Maisie, Alice, Sylvia, Louise, Gus, and Samuel.

His daily humor will be sorely missed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
