LOVEworks sign

Gloucester’s new LOVEworks sign, located on the gazebo lawn at Sanders Riverside Active Living Community, just off Main Street, was dedicated last Thursday, June 12, a day known as Loving Day, marking the day of the 1967 Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia—a ruling that struck down bans on interracial marriage in Virginia and 15 other states, affirming the fundamental right to love and marry freely. The event was made possible by The Cook Foundation, with Barbara Weldon and Sanders Retirement Village hosting the installation. “The LOVE sign will serve as a permanent landmark—a joyful and interactive space for photos, creativity, and community pride,” said Cook Foundation executive director Elizabeth Blackney.
