Mathews High School FCCLA members Mya Schroeder, Bri Thomas and Alex Walker, from left, have been working on their FCCLA STAR Event project: “Spreading the Love to CHKD.” The students baked, decorated, sold and delivered “cookie grams” to raise funds to purchase material which then were sewn into brightly colored pillowcases for CHKD patients. The students had help from seventh and eighth grade FCCLA members and several community members in sewing. They began with a goal of 50; last week, they delivered 75 pillowcases. This was Phase 1 of their project. Phase 2 involves the donation of fleece tie blankets and lap quilts.
