LOUISE URBAN LANKFORD

Louise Urban Lankford, 85, of Gloucester, Va., passed away peacefully at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital on Nov. 30, 2012.

Louise was born Sept. 6, 1927 in Mollusk, Va., to the late George W. Urban Sr. and Gretchen Urban. She was a member of White Stone United Methodist Church, and lived in White Stone for many years until making her home in Gloucester.

Louise touched the lives of many with her warm smile and loving heart. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross at the Lancashire Nursing Home in Kilmarnock for over 25 years.

As a young girl she loved crabbing with her friends and family. She loved working in her flower garden, which was always the first row of Sam’s vegetable garden. Louise was also an avid reader but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She enjoyed many vacations to Nags Head with her family.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose gentle soul will be missed by many.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gretchen Urban; her husband of 49 years, Samuel B. Lankford Sr.; son, Bruce Lankford; sister, Myrtle Conrad; brothers, E.J. “Butsie” Conrad, John Conrad and Frank Conrad; granddaughter, Tammy Lankford, and great-grandson, Derek McComas.

Surviving are her daughter, Patsy Hall and husband David; her son, Sammy Lankford and wife Sophie; four grandchildren, JoElle Harvey (Mark), Keith Barrack (Carrie), Alisa Mugridge (Mark), and Diana Adkins (Dana); 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan and Lauren Harvey, Zachary, Brayden and Reid Barrack, Blake McComas, Braedin Mugridge, Daniel Frazier, Sierra Adkins; sister, Lottie Taft (Lawrence); brother, George W. Urban Jr. (Naomi); sister-in-law and best friend, Violet Elbourn, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment was at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lively. Friends called prior to the service from 12:30-2 o’clock at the funeral home.
