Lottery fever: Two Gloucester County men win big prizes

Gloucester seems to be the place to buy lottery tickets.

Over the span of several weeks, two county residents who played Virginia Lottery games struck it big—on Dec. 22, a Gloucester Point resident won the $5 million top prize in the $5,000,000 Cash Blowout scratcher game; and a Ware Neck resident claimed his $1 million top prize last Thursday in the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle.

“I just walked in, picked out the right ticket and won.”

That’s how Johnathan Hirtenstein of Gloucester Point described how he won his $5 million top prize in the scratcher game.

“It feels amazing,” he said as he claimed his prize just three days before Christmas. “It just doesn’t happen to many people.”

Hirtenstein, who works as a caterer, bought his winning ticket at Stop & Go, 1505 George Washington Memorial Highway at Gloucester Point.
