Loring named Retired Teacher of the Year

Lana Loring, a third grade teacher and K-12 physical education instructor who retired after 32 years in education, was selected as the Gloucester Retired Educators Association’s Retired Teacher of the Year.

Originally from Pennsylvania, she is a graduate of Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, Pa., and earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education from Old Dominion University.

Loring taught at Susquehannock and at Southwestern High School in Hanover, Pa., before joining Gloucester County Public Schools. Loring was named to Who’s Who in American Education in 1990 and was the 2001 Teacher of the Year at Abingdon Elementary School.
Loring has served as president of the Gamma Nu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and as president, first vice president, second vice president and secretary of the GREA. She has also held memberships in the Gloucester Education Association, the VEA and the NEA.
