LONNIE DEWITT EDWARDS

Lonnie DeWitt Edwards, 84, of Mathews, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.

After serving in the Navy for three years, he worked at the Naval Weapons Station for 34 years as an engineer. He received many awards for his excellent performance and commitment to his field. His retirement brought many opportunities to enjoy his lifelong passions. A lifelong love of the water, and a true sailor, he loved his sailboat. He loved fishing as well, achieving a Master Angler Certificate. DeWitt loved his church family and was a deacon and founding member of Faith Baptist Church.

A love of family, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen; two children, Chris Edwards (Robin) and Theresa Morgan (Rusty); three grandchildren, Christopher Stuart, Abby and Emily Edwards.

To all who knew him, he was kind and loving. He was a man of excellence and conviction to what he believed and a patriot at heart. He will be missed by many. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at 1 p.m. at H. C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Va. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, assisted the family. Please be advised that current state-mandated guidelines applied to all in attendance, including social distancing, and appropriate face coverings.
