Lois Haywood Buchanan, 75, passed away on May 16, 2019 at Riverside Convalescent Center, Saluda, Va. She was born on October 18, 1943 in Newport News to Charlie Haywood and Irene White Haywood and lived in Mathews County all her life. She was a member of Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church and retired from D & P Embroidery, Cobbs Creek, Va. 

She was predeceased by her husband Junior Buchanan; her parents, seven brothers Wilton, Thomas, Paul, Jesse, Frank, Arnold and Richard; two sisters Lillie May and Ellen and one niece and one nephew. She is survived by one son John Craig Buchanan and one sister Martha Slaughter of Chesapeake, Va; several nieces and nephews and special friends Alvin and Audrey Knight and Suzanne Melin. 

A private graveside service was held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Gwynn’s Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109. Faulkner Funeral Home, Foster-Faulkner Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
