Local youth learn sailing basics at summer camps

The sunshine and breezes of summer allow for a host of outdoor activities, including the chance for aspiring sailors to learn the ins and outs of a sailboat while enjoying the rivers of Gloucester and Mathews counties.

Beginning in June, the Ware River Yacht Club in Gloucester and the Mathews YMCA offered their yearly sailing camps to educate and entertain participants.

The Ware River Yacht Club sailing camp featured three sessions and took place at the organization’s clubhouse on the Ware River. The third session is underway and will conclude on Aug. 4. This marked the 44th consecutive year that Ware River Yacht Club has offered this camp and also Clayton and Ginger Jameses’ 10th year as camp directors.
