Local observances planned for Veterans Day

Observances will be held this weekend and Tuesday evening in the Middle Peninsula in celebration of Veterans Day.

American Legion Post 83 and its Auxiliary will host their annual dinner and membership awards program on Tuesday evening at the post headquarters in Hudgins. Marine Corps League Middle Peninsula Detachment #1317 will hold a wreath-laying ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial in front of the courthouse.

The Marine Detachment will also hold a ceremony marking the 239th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps and the legacy of Lt. General Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller Jr. at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ Church in Saluda.
