Local merchants feeling benefit of early holiday sales

Lots of shoppers brought smiles to a number of local merchants this past weekend as a sampling of Gloucester and Mathews businesses showed most were pleased with early holiday sales.

 

A check with some residents out shopping indicated many plan to spend a bit less this year, while others said they plan to open their wallets a little more.

 

Sales were exceptionally good at 4 U’R Health at White Marsh Shopping Center, owner Linda Friesen said. Her shop, along with many others in the two counties, benefited from the Small Business Saturday promotion.

 

“This is significant for a small business,” Friesen said. To show her appreciation, she surprised customers with a 10 percent discount on their purchases Saturday, noting that health books and oils sold well.
