Local chapter members attend P.E.O. convention

Six members of P.E.O. Chapter BT-Mathews recently attended the 75th annual convention of the Virginia State Chapter at the Richmond Marriott.
Attending were chapter delegates Tammy Turner and Linda Ortiz, president Trish Reed, and chapter members Becky Morgan, Catherine Zych and Rosemary Eaton.
Kendra Yates, recipient of the Program for Continuing Education Scholarship, was a featured speaker at the Harmony Banquet. Yates, sponsored by Chapter BT, recently received her BSN in Nursing from ODU and is now an RN at the VCU Burn Unit in Richmond, where she previously spent seven weeks as a burn patient.
P.E.O. has been motivating, educating and celebrating women for more than 156 years, a release said. Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 125,000 women pursue educational goals by providing over $432 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans. P.E.O. also owns and supports Cottey College, a woman’s college in Missouri.
