Local banks give back on Columbus Day

While most banks had the day off, employees of Chesapeake Bank and 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union took advantage of Monday, Oct. 14, (Columbus Day) by giving back to the community.

Employees at Chesapeake Bank, Chesapeake Wealth, Chesapeake Payment Systems and Cash Flow held their annual “Great Place to Work Day” using the afternoon to take part in a teambuilding exercise for a group of deserving students associated with the R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA, Williamsburg.

The result of their efforts was a donation of 30 bicycles, helmets, and locks to children in the Williamsburg community. The event took place at the Colonial Heritage in Williamsburg. 

Chesapeake holds a training day every Columbus Day holiday to complete required annual training. More than 200 employees participated. Each year, a nonprofit is chosen to benefit from the afternoon of service that Chesapeake offers.
