Little Free Library installed on Gwynn’s Island

A Little Free Library has been installed in front of the Gwynn’s Island Museum by the Gwynn’s Island Civic League.

The little library will hold up to 50 books for adults and children, said John Mathiesen, chair of the G.I. Civic League Foundation. That way, island residents can borrow books without having to drive downtown.

Made of used and compressed plastic bottles, the library is eco-friendly and nearly waterproof, he said. The idea for placing one at the museum came from Mathiesen’s wife, Sue. The cost was around $675, said Mathiesen, and the funds were donated by the civic league.

Little Free Library is an international nonprofit organization, and the little library is registered with the organization, he said, so a computer search will show its location.
